The ancient harbor of Akka (عكا, “Acre”) has borne more than just the crashing of waves. Sought after by empires spanning three continents, the radiant pattern of the kufiya speaks to the vivid beauty of a town that was the cultural gateway between Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean, and yet still keeps its indigenous Palestinian heritage to this day. The Akka Kufiya is an effort to capture the vibrant spirit of this lively Mediterranean city.

Pearl of the Levant
Akka, founded by the Canaanites around 3000 BCE, is one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities. Its name likely comes from “Akkaw,” meaning “hot sand,” reflecting its sun-drenched Mediterranean coast. For millennia, Akka has been a vital fortified naval base and gateway between the Middle East and the Mediterranean.
Surrounded by sea walls built in the 7th century by the Umayyads, Akka was prized by many empires—the Crusaders, Abbasids, Mamluks, Ottomans, and the British—all leaving their mark on this ancient city. Despite repeated invasions, the Palestinian people of Akka remained resilient, cultivating a rich multicultural heritage. The city is home to diverse religious communities, including Muslims, Druze, Christians, Jews, and the Baháʼí faith, for which Akka is a sacred pilgrimage site.
The 1948 Nakba caused most Palestinians to be expelled from Akka, except those who found refuge behind the old city’s walls. These remaining residents have become the custodians of Akka’s authentic Palestinian soul. Today, Akka stands as a rare testament to Palestinian heritage within the occupied territories, where its historic buildings, religious sites, and cultural landmarks remain largely intact.
Akka is therefore not just a city; it is a living chronicle of Palestinian identity, a beacon of resilience, and a reminder that history’s deepest roots can never be erased.

Fabric is soft to the touch, and it helps me through hot days and cold nights alike. Strips in the patterning are white, instead of the deeper blue shown in the product pictures. Nevertheless, this kufiya is nicely vibrant and goes well with a lot. Threads in the stitching catch and pull easily on things, so be careful with it. Even though it arrived within a month of my order, I'd more than gladly wait as long as needed! Quite a wonderful kufiya overall.
It is an honour to wear this beautiful Kufiya. I have saved all the loose threads, and plan to combine them with threads from my own embroidery, to make a tribute to your art and your resistance, and our collective humanity. From the River To the sea, with love from Scotland.
I'm very happy with this Kufiya, the soft Blue with the colorful pattern looks so pretty! The quality is really great too and I did wear and will continue to wear them on protests as well as whenever I feel like wearing it!^^
The 'Akka' kufiya is very comfortable and well-made. It can be styled in many ways and is suitable for both warm and cold weather. Personally, as a Macedonian (in Australia), I love this kufiya because it highlights our peoples shared connection to the Mediterranean.
